Anthony Phillips CV

BSc (Hons), MRICS

Anthony Phillips Commercial Property Ltd was set up at the start of 2012 after 28 years experience working with some of the major surveying practices in the UK.

Following an Honours degree in Land Management from Reading University in 1984, Anthony worked for Hillier Parker (now CBRE) in London where he qualified as a member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors .  In 1987 he joined The Burton Group as an acquisition surveyor acquiring new shops on the High Street throughout the UK. He then joined the Dunedin Property Group where he was responsible for developing retail in Carlisle, industrial in Kettering and offices in Guildford.

In 1991 he returned home to Wales and joined Chesterton where he became Director in Charge of the Agency department.  In 2005, Chesterton was acquired by Atisreal which later rebranded as BNP Paribas Real Estate and Anthony was made head of Office in Cardiff in 2007.  Over this period he has worked on some of the major commercial property schemes and developments throughout South Wales. He acquired the Bridgend Industrial Estate on behalf of Clerical Medical from the WDA, he advised Legal & General on entering Cardiff and helped them acquire over 150,000 sq ft, he sold Pearl House (now Capital Tower) the tallest building in Cardiff, he let Brunel House, the largest office building in Cardiff, he advised Centrica British Gas on their relocation to new headquarters in Cardiff and acquired some of the most modern offices at Callaghan Square on behalf of National Grid Pension Fund.

In addition Anthony has advised several Banks on the values of their Loan Books. He has been a regular speaker at conferences on the Property Market and has built up a dedicated and loyal network of clients.  He says:

“I started this business in a fit of pique. ┬áHaving been Head of Office for one of the largest corporate companies in Europe I was spending too much time processing and not doing. ┬áWorking with clients is what excites me. ┬áDelivering the best advice and deal possible is what challenges me. ┬áAnd so, after 28 years working in the corporate world I decided to get back to doing what I do best… providing clients with clear, concise and specialist knowledge on the commercial property market in South Wales”.

Outside work, he captains a mens team at his local tennis club in Penarth and is on the clubs committee. He is a keen skier and has run two marathons (including the Medoc marathon which goes through 19 of FranceÔÇÖs finest vineyards, all of which serve wine). He plays at Glamorganshire Golf Club off a handicap of 12, is a qualified football referee and helps with his sonÔÇÖs football team. ┬áHe played county rugby as a schoolboy and was selected in the Welsh Schoolboy Squad at under 19 level. Married for 25 years to his Brazilian wife, he holidays a lot in his wifeÔÇÖs homeland with his two teenage children and enjoys sailing and scuba diving.
